Funds help educators intervene when students are struggling
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is an integral part of Pennsylvania schools, offering resources to struggling students to remove barriers to learning. Most of these barriers end up being mental health or substance use issues. Teachers and other school staff can opt to sit on their school’s SAP team, and need state-approved training to do so, which Compass Mark provides.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has announced that through a recent grant funding opportunity, thirteen SAP training providers across PA have received funding awards to offer SAP training at no cost to school entities, and Compass Mark is one of these providers. Director of Training Deb McCoy and Training Coordinator Christine Weidner prepared 864 educators last fiscal year to serve on SAP teams all over the Commonwealth.
Funding Details
Anyone in PA needing SAP training who works for a school entity is eligible for the grant funding for their training costs, as well as the costs associated with substitute teacher coverage. Funding is available until December of 2026 or until it runs out, whichever comes first.
SAP is mandated in Pennsylvania public schools as per Chapter 12, 12.42 of the PA School Code and Act 211 of 1990 (24 P.S., 12, 12.42-1547). SAP coordinators, school administrators, and school contacts can register for one of our many virtual, two-day certification trainings on our Events page today.
