iDECIDE

iDECIDE is an evidence-informed, tier-2 program providing youth with science-based knowledge and skills to prevent substance use, and is encouraged as an alternative to suspension. It challenges young people to make decisions that align with their core values and future goals to support their own personal well-being.

This program is funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board; the content may not represent the views of the PLCB.

Problems Addressed:

  • Use of alcohol, nicotine, or other drugs
  • *Not limited to infraction-based referrals*

Skills Built:

  • Understanding of the impact of substance use and addiction on the brain and body
  • Knowledge of the common tactics used by industry to target young people
  • Ability to identify and respond to personal impulses to use alcohol and other drugs
  • Empowerment and a plan to make healthy decisions

Age/Grade Level: 5th thru 12th grade

Setting: One-on-one or small groups

Format: Four (4) one-hour sessions

Effectiveness: iDECIDE was developed by the Center for Addiction Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the Institute for Health and Recovery. Research on effectiveness is being conducted.
