The cyber world of kids has become one of the most challenging issues facing adults and our youth as mobile communication technologies have become commonplace among our young people.  For many, digital devices are tools for social communication.  However, kids and teens are increasingly using those technologies to deliver cruel and harmful messages and photographs, and cross the legal boundaries of speech.  This workshop examines:

  • The latest research and information on digital speech;
  • Act 26; the criminalization of cyberbullying among youth;
  • Cyber-bullying, and how youth use technology to harass, humiliate, intimidate and/or threaten others;
  • Social media and trending sites among youth;
  • Sexting: what is it and what are the consequences;
  • How colleges, universities and employers are making decisions about students based on information found electronically.
