Kindergarteners on the PATHS® to Prevention in Annville-Cleona

Virtual Learning

Classroom learning has been a challenging endeavor throughout the past year. Students, parents, and teachers have exemplified exceptional resiliency during this time, and we tip our hats to those caring for our children. We are thankful to be able to continue our programming such as PATHS®, in the Annville-Cleona School District in Lebanon County.

Our team member, Regina, leads two groups in the extended-day kindergarten classes at Cleona Elementary in the Annville-Cleona School District. PATHS® is a comprehensive program for promoting emotional and social competencies and reducing aggression and behavior problems in elementary school-aged children while simultaneously enhancing the educational process in the classroom.

As COVID forced many school districts to suspend in-person instruction, the Compass Mark staff quickly adapted to provide virtual classes- including Regina! Her virtual instruction provided lessons to kindergarteners to problem solve, develop positive relationships, and build positive coping strategies.

“We’ve seen an uptick in nervousness about being in school”, Beth, a school counselor at Cleona Elementary explained. Beth said Regina’s lessons could not have come at a better time. As our youngest students are experiencing large environmental changes, they need coping strategies. Regina adapted the PATHS® curriculum to reach students at home.

Beth explained, not only was Regina teaching timely coping strategies, but the kindergarteners also looked forward to learning virtually with her. “Our students were super excited and looked forward to Mrs. K’s class!”

Compass Mark continues to offer evidence-based programs in our partnering school districts. Our team members, like Regina, are committed to utilizing the latest research from our field to deliver only the most effective, evidence-based programs for our schools and community. The Annville-Cleona School District has made the commitment to its students and supports our vision to guide everyone along the path to healthy, fulfilling lives free from addiction.
