Using various studies including NSDUH, Monitoring the Future, and PA Youth Survey, this virtual workshop via Zoom will look at the current state of gambling and problem gambling—for youth and adults—both locally and nationally. We will examine the trends in gambling as well as look to the future. This is an area where the landscape is constantly shifting and it’s helpful to know what is coming so that those of us in the helping professions can plan accordingly!

Trainer

Josh Mountz, MEd, CPS earned a BS in Ornamental Horticulture from Delaware Valley University in 1998 and finished the Teacher Certification Internship Program (TCIP) in 2007. Josh has been working with young people for over 20 years: leading church youth groups, coaching softball, and teaching marching band. In 2013 he took an opportunity to teach at the college level and worked with the athletics department at Saint Francis University while earning his master’s degree in education.

Josh started with Compass Mark Lebanon in 2014, facilitating school programs—he enjoyed being in the classroom and teaching social-emotional skills to students. In 2022, he moved to the Training Coordinator role and became certified by the PA Department of Education to offer Student Assistance Program (SAP) training.

As part of Compass Mark’s Training & Professional Development team, Josh prepares educators to sit on school SAP teams and intervene with students experiencing barriers to learning. As a coach, a sports fan, and a former athlete, he has as passion for educating the public about the potential consequences of sports betting and other types of gambling for people with risk factors for gambling disorders.
