Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS)

The PATHS program promotes social and emotional learning, character development and bullying prevention.

Problem Areas Addressed:

  • students’ levels of self-efficacy
  • inability to interact appropriately with peers
  • difficulty controlling behavior
  • identifying and expressing feelings in safe, healthy ways

Skills Built:

  • problem solving
  • developing positive relationships
  • positive coping strategies;communication

Age/Grade Level: Grades K-6

Setting: Small-group, pull-out program during the school day

Format: Series of twenty 30-minute sessions during the school year.

Effectiveness:

  • Recognized as a ‘Model’ program by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA)
  • Recognized as a ‘Model’ program by the Blueprints Project for the Center for Study and Prevention of Violence, University of Colorado
  • Recognized as a ‘Select’ program by Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL)
