This book tells the story of Alateen, which is a part of the Al-Anon Family Groups, the fellowship of people whose lives are being or have been affected by close contact with a problem drinker. It tells of their fears, their problems, their hopes, and their achievements. Alateens get together at meetings to help each other with the problems they have in common. They share their experiences, learn about alcoholism, the family disease, and concentrate on their personal growth in order to lessen the harmful effects of alcoholism on their lives. They do this by studying and applying to themselves the Twelve Steps adopted from Alcoholics Anonymous. They experience the warmth of knowing they are not alone, that someone cares. Their self-confidence is restored and their hope in the future is rekindled. As they learn to face and deal with their problems, they find their lives can be filled with satisfaction, love, and joy.
